From the 1980s to the infrastructure of the future: The world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnel

Our mechanical service technician has just completed a service tour across Norway, which included a visit to Ølen Betong in Sveio, located between Bergen and Stavanger, to service their faithful, 40-year-old SM-B 1500 mixer from 1986.
Despite its age, the mixer continues to play an important role in one of Norway’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. It is helping supply concrete for the Boknafjord Tunnel, part of the Rogfast project.

When completed in 2033, the tunnel will become the world’s longest and deepest subsea road tunnel. Stretching 26.7 km and reaching a depth of 392 metres below sea level, it will replace the three ferry crossings that currently provide departures every 20 minutes.

To us, this is a great example of how robust equipment, combined with proper maintenance and service, can continue creating value for decades while contributing to world-class construction projects.
